Mark Hone Posted 28 August , 2008 Share Posted 28 August , 2008 Whilst carrying out research for a forthcoming talk on the end of the war, I have come across a personal account by an officer in 2/5th Lancashire Fusiliers, part of the 'Stockwell Force' flying column, of the action at Ath on 11th November 1918, obviously one of the very last engagements fought by the British Army on the Western Front. Apart from the account given in the 55th Divisional History is anyone aware of any other descriptions of this action? Also it is interesting that the account mentions, because of the intermingling of British and German troops in the forward positions, the very real possibility of shooting breaking out after the Armistice. As a matter of interest is anyone aware of any actual Armistice violations?
