james_harvey Posted 27 August , 2008 Share Posted 27 August , 2008 Hi All Need some help. Have a group of medals to HMS Thunderer where the my man died by drowning in 6 feb 1915. Name PO1class Alfred Farrant. Did something happen to make him drown or could it have been a case of falling overboard. He was a gunlayer at the time of his death. Any help greatly appreciated. historydavid Posted 28 August , 2008 Share Posted 28 August , 2008 James, this the Admiralty casualty record for your man: FARRANT, ALFRED J., P.O. 1c, 172648, H.M. Battleship, THUNDERER, 06-Feb-15, DROWNING. He was the only casualty that day on THUNDERER, so it probably was accidental. Best wishes David

per ardua per mare per terram Posted 29 August , 2008 Share Posted 29 August , 2008 Sometimes there is an account of the accident in the ships log, as that would be used at the Court of Enquiry.
