spingo Posted 15 August , 2008 Share Posted 15 August , 2008 Looking for attestation information for William Bates, born Wigan and living in Manchester at the time of enrolement. The only information I have is from a birth cert in 1916 which states he is a private in the 3rd bat Royal Scots and was employed as a boiler fireman in civie life. I know he served in Salonika but have no knowledge if he served in the European theatre. He survived the conflict, albeit hospitalized with shell-shock. I have a possible listing for his mic: Royal Scots Fusiliers 31741 Private and Highland Light Infantry 42884 Private, but need more info to proceed with my research to make sure I have the right man. Any information as to how to obtain this info would be gratefully appreciated. spingo
Chris_Baker Posted 15 August , 2008 Share Posted 15 August , 2008 Well, you need to find his service record. Have you looked? By the way, 3rd Royal Scots -> not the same as Royal Scots Fusiliers.

Thanks for the reply Chris, no haven't looked--how do you go about it?--only previously research solders who made the ultimate sacrifice before. I take note of the regiment differences.
