Remembered Today:

Australian 6th Machine Gun Company in April 1918]

On 15th April, 1918, soldiers from the 6th Australian Machine Gun Company were using organised baths in a chateau when a floor collapsed while they were changing. Eleven men fell about 5 metres onto a concrete floor. One of the most seriously injured was Cpl H. G. Black who suffered a broken pelvis.

I think the baths might have been set up in the out-buildings of the chateau at BAIZIEUX. I believe this chateau was being used as an Australian HQ at the time, so it could have been the location for something like the Divisional Baths.

Is anybody aware of this incident? What I'd really like to do is confirm that the chateau at BAIZIEUX was the place where the accident happened. I can't find anything online which might help, but knowing how good the Pals are at solving mysteries, I thought I'd give it a go here.

(I'm trying to find the location so that I can visit it in a few weeks time).

as always, grateful for any help with this one.

Tom
