Charles WALDOCK - Sapper - 147732 - 253rd Tunnelling Company - Royal Engineers. Missing In Action on the 28th January 1916

( Formerley 3/12320 Leicestershire Regiment)

LOOS MEMORIAL Pas de Calais, France

SD shows this man was born and resident in Stevenage but oddly he is not included on the war memorial. There are two other Waldock's on the war memorial, possibly relatives.

Firstly, does anyone have any info/knowledge of the 253rd Tunnelling Company and what they were doing in January 1916?

Secondly, Why do you think this mans name was left off of the war memorial, considering the fact that there may be other relatives on it? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank You

Paul

There are several reasons why he might have been missed off.

- SDGW may well be wrong about where he was living and he no longer had a close connection with the area.

- he came from a different branch of the family so, for example, his cousins were included but not him

- the family couldnt stand him !

- etc

Thank you gentlemen for the advice. It will be put to good use.

Chris, I dont know why I didn't look at the Long Long Trail first (god knows, I've been told about it enough times) but thank you for the link.
