Have managed to trace the 11th Sherwood Foresters being the 8th Division near Authuille Wood on 1st July 1916, have found a map showing lines, British Division numbers in red so presumably the black numbers are the German Divisions; the black number opposite 8th Division is 180, can anybody tell me anything about them?

Also does anybody know of any site showing a picture of that area?

Any help much appreciated, thank you

Steve

According to Pal Jack Sheldon's book, " The German Army on the Somme", Infantry Regiment 180 was part of 26th Reserve Division and had spent most of the previous year fortifying the line in the Serre sector before being given responsibility for Thiepval South to the Albert- Bapaume road at Ovillers. They suffered only light casualties during the bombardment.
