9th Black Watch Posted 23 February , 2004 Share Posted 23 February , 2004 Dear all, I'm currently researching a group of medals - 1914 Star and Bar trio - to 2747 Pte. John Johnston, 1st Black Watch, K.I.A., Saturday 19 May 1917, aged 23, attached 43rd Squadron Royal Flying Corps. He is buried in Aire Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais. I'm afraid my knowledge of the R.F.C. is a little limited. I wondered if anyone could suggest in what capacity Johnston was serving with the Flying Corps? He came from Fife and I'm in the process of obtaining information from the local press, but any suggestions would be welcome. Best wishes, Derek
