So far I've found 90 relatives that served in the War not all overseas:

1 Royal Australian Navy (Royal Navy on loan)

8 Royal Navy

73 British Army

1 British Army/Royal Flying Corps/Royal Air force

6 Canadian Army

1 Australian Imperial force

4 of those who enlisted in the British Army were discharged as no longer fit for war service and didn't serve overseas.

23 of those relatives died in the war:

1 Royal Australian Navy (Royal Navy on loan)

22 British Army

As a kid I was told of 8 relatives that served in the war and only 3 those had survived. Then I caught the Genealogy bug from one of my cousins.

With the release of the service records I found some of those I already knew about but found several I didn't know about. The latest batch has produced 12 members of the family. The MIC's have confirmed one relative who died as it had his fathers name and address on the back.

I also have quite a list of relatives who fought, but for simplicity I've just included my closer relatives (or at least those I know most about!), and those that didn't return home.

My fathers side:

My grandfather, George James (Jim) Fayers, Gunner, 5 Siege Battery, RGA.
His brother, Edward Henry (Ted) Fayers, Private, unknown motor transport unit, ASC. (Two other brothers may also have fought, but I have no details to confirm.)
His first cousins, Walter Ernest (Ernie) Fayers, Gunner, 5 Siege Battery, RGA
and Frederick Walter Fayers, Private, 1/5th Essex Regiment.
My grandfather's second cousins Bertie George Bowers, Private, 7th Suffolk Regiment, and Frederick Walter Schofield, Private, 1/1st Hertfordshire Regiment, were killed in action.

My grandmother's brother, Henry Robert (Harry) Head, unknown unit.
Her first cousin Robert George Andrews, Private, 3rd Rifle Brigade (later 25th and 16th KRRC).
Her first cousin Launcelot Charles Victor Andrews (Robert's brother), Private, 11th Suffolk Regiment, died of wounds.

My mother's side:

My gg uncle (my grandfather's uncle) Horace George Parnell, Gunner, 5th Battery, RFA (a veteran of the Boer War), died of wounds.
My grandfather's second cousins Thomas Henry Philpott, Private, 1/6th East Lancashire Regiment (died of illness) and Bertram Philpott (both brothers), Private, 2nd and later 9th Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment (killed in action).
My g grandmother's first cousin Edward Dines, Lance Corporal, 1/4th Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action.

My grandmother's brother Robert George (Bob) Scarff, Signal Boy J.87099, joined the Royal Navy late in 1918, but did not see action though he did receive a BWM.
Her first cousins Stanley Henry Scarff, Private, 1/5th Suffolk Regiment, and Douglas Arthur Albert Phillips, Private, 1st RMLI, were both killed in action. Stanley's brothers Cecil Scarff (ASC, Essex Regiment and London Regiment) and Harold Scarff (Suffolk Regiment) also joined up, though Harold never served overseas. Douglas' younger brother Donald Henry Edward Phillips served as an Ordinary Seaman (J.40189) in the Royal Navy, and died in 1925 of TB contracted during the war; his older brother Albert (Bertie) Edward Phillips served in the Suffolk Yeomanry and in the Royal Field Artillery TF as Gunner 1371 (later 889592) in 1/3rd East Anglian (Howitzer) Brigade.
Her other first cousins, Arthur Albert Lennard and William Robert Lennard both served (as a serjeant and private respectively) in the Suffolk Yeomanry (later 15th Suffolk Regiment).

Also my father-in-law's grandfather, John Paterson Young, Private, 11th Cameron Highlanders, died of wounds.

Strewth, Kevin, that's an amazing effort! Makes it very easy to see. I wonder if any of the men have been listed by more than one person, not knowing they're related?
