I think it would be nice if somehow our signature(s) could be linked when we post our last relatives names. It would be nice to be in contact with others who share common ancestors.

Hello everyone, I'm starting a database of WW1 and WW2 soldiers from Ireland, thought I'd start small and maybe expand to mainland UK soldiers as well, if anyone here has a soldier from Ireland, North or South, would they like to send their details to me or if you have already added them here I can get the info already posted and a picture too, see example

Just a suggestion but how about starting a post inviting members to list relatives who served in the war and their units, or just their units?

It might come to light that some members had relatives who served in the same Battalions/Coys at the same time?

Ian

My Grandfather was No 418, Company Sergeant Major HJ Haggertay, 1st Section 12th Field Company Royal Engineers. Mentioned in Despatches of Sir John French Nov 1914 and published in the London Gazette 1915. he also served in the Boer War. He died in 1940 in Chatham Kent of Diabetes related problems. Incidentley his son Harry Edward haggerty was killed 2 years later on the HMS Niger, a Halcyon Class Minesweeper. It wandered into a british minefield off Greenland and struck a mine and sank. It was carrying survivors of the HMS Edinburgh, there were few survivors.

regards all

Rod Haggerty (ex Trooper 9th/12th Royal lancers)

My Great Grandfather Private Frank Large 12462 who served with the 10th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment throughout the war arriving on the 9/8/15 and serving at Loos and on the Somme, Later Transferred in 1918 to what I think is the 18th Battalion of the Machine gun Corps, survived the War and went to work on the Railways in Winchcombe Gloucestershire.

Also Corporal William Ingles DCM 13488 who I beleive was my G/Grandfathers Cousin not 100% confirmed served in the same Battalion and won the DCM near Hulluch on the 25/9/15 and was killed in a subsequent attack on the 13/8/15 at the Hohenzollern Redoubt,

Looking into other ancestors on mothers and fathers side of the family.
