Old Tom Posted 3 August , 2008 Share Posted 3 August , 2008 Hello, The thread following my post on Trench Mortar Battery designations about 10 days ago may be of interest. Your 59th Battery, part of 59 Brigade, was presumably part of a New Army Divison possibly 20 or 21 assuming brigades were numbered in sequence as the formations formed. If so, it is likely that battery war diaries, if they exist, are part of the Divisional Trench Mortar war diaries for that division. I recently visited the National Archives and found that for the 18th Division the surviving Trench Mortar unit diaries were boxed together with those of the Divisional Ammunition Column. Ron Clifton Posted 3 August , 2008 Share Posted 3 August , 2008 There is no separate War Diary for 59th Bde TM Battery in the expected place, so Tom's suggestion of looking in the Div TM Batts' diary in WO95/2106 is a good one. the diary for the Div Amm Column is in the same box.
