Remembered Today:

Late Casualty

I have a pair of medals named to V Catterall of the Kings Liverpool regiment,he served with the 2/5th as 7243 and later with the 12th as 20393, what I am hoping someone can tell me is why his medals are numbered to his first battalion (2/5th 7243) and not his last batalion the 12th 20393. As he was a late casualty (13-04-1920) and his MIC and Roll do not show him as a casualty, would a plaque have been sent to his next of kin.He died at home in bamber Bridge Preston and is buried at St Saviours churchyard. Is anyone from that area who can tell me if the churchyard is still there and does he have a headstone.

As he died before the CWGC cut-off date of 31.08.21 he has an official war grave. However, this may have a CWGC headstone or a private memorial. It was the next-of-kin's choice.
