Hello Kevan,

Thanks for posting this list. I wonder if in your research you have stumbled across the name of this Warwicks man:

4765 Sjt. Ernest Harold LONG DCM MM

10th Bn. Royal Warwicks

Killed on May 31, 1918

He was from Coventry.

Its a long shot...but you never know?

Thank you in advance,

David

He was formerly 13994 Northumberland Rgt so may have won the medals pre RWR

Hello Alan,

I only noticed your posts today! Thanks for that added bit on Long, very helpful stuff.

He actually did win both his awards with the RWR; The MM in 1916, and the DCM in a trench raid in 1917.

kind regards,

David

Dear Kevan

I am a Scout Leader in South Warwickshire and I am doing a few activities with my group around the two local soldiers that obtained the VC, one of them being William Amey. If there is anything about his life that you could send, that would be really interesting

Thank you in anticipation

Kind regards

Graham Folkes-Skinner

Hello Donna and welcome to the forum

This is an old thread and many of the contributors have not been seen for a year or so. It is specifically for gallantry awards to the Warwickshire Regiment.  I can't find a record of a Dewson in that Regiment.

Are you referring to the Australian officer?  If so your best bet is the Australian War Memorial site which is probably very busy today.

IF that is him then your great grandfather's citation for his Military Cross is here at the London Gazette https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30251/supplement/8822

and referenced here at the AWM 5502921.PDF

There are other files at the AWM and he is commemorated on the CWGC Roll https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/205323/dewson,-richard-william/

The DCM was awarded to other ranks and non-commissioned officers, the Military Cross to officers.  I can't find his DCM at the moment, perhaps you can confirm he is the man you are looking for.

Richard was appointed a postman in Ormskirk in 1905 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/27781/page/2553

Ken

Not sure what's happening with the pdf probably too big for forum rules clicking anywhere on it all take you to the page
