Guest Magnum49 Posted 22 June , 2014 Share Posted 22 June , 2014 Dear Kevan I am a Scout Leader in South Warwickshire and I am doing a few activities with my group around the two local soldiers that obtained the VC, one of them being William Amey. If there is anything about his life that you could send, that would be really interesting Thank you in anticipation Kind regards Graham Folkes-Skinner
Terry Carter Posted 22 June , 2014 Share Posted 22 June , 2014 Amey was a Brummie who moved to Leamington Spa after the war. I will sort out a bit of info later. Terry

I am his Great Granddaughter Thank you Donna Hello Donna and welcome to the forum This is an old thread and many of the contributors have not been seen for a year or so. It is specifically for gallantry awards to the Warwickshire Regiment. I can't find a record of a Dewson in that Regiment. Are you referring to the Australian officer? If so your best bet is the Australian War Memorial site which is probably very busy today. IF that is him then your great grandfather's citation for his Military Cross is here at the London Gazette https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30251/supplement/8822 and referenced here at the AWM There are other files at the AWM and he is commemorated on the CWGC Roll https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/205323/dewson,-richard-william/ The DCM was awarded to other ranks and non-commissioned officers, the Military Cross to officers. I can't find his DCM at the moment, perhaps you can confirm he is the man you are looking for. Richard was appointed a postman in Ormskirk in 1905 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/27781/page/2553 Ken Not sure what's happening with the pdf probably too big for forum rules clicking anywhere on it all take you to the page Edited 25 April , 2019 by kenf48
