Kate B Posted 28 July , 2008 Share Posted 28 July , 2008 I have a Medal Index Card which shows an ancestor's medals were "returned under paragraph 992 Kings Regulations 1923”. Can anyone tell me what para 992 means? I've searched the Nat Archives, but can't find them. Thank you

Kate B Posted 28 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 28 July , 2008 Thank you! I'd been told that it meant they had been returned for correction (to the spelling or similar). So if they were returned to the War Office, I guess there's no chance of them being re-issued now?! Thanks again
jay dubaya Posted 28 July , 2008 Share Posted 28 July , 2008 Hi Kate, if the KR reference is followed by 8362/adt then it would suggest that the medals had been returned for correction/adjustment to name etc. Also they could have been returned as the recipients address had changed and no new address had been forwarded. If after 10 years they are still unclaimed I believe that they were returned to the Royal Dockyard (Medal Branch), Woolwich to be broken up. You're right about claiming the medals now, there's no chance sadly, Jon
