This chap Lionel Harold Esslin was a Private in the Marine Corps. Born 23 September 1897 at Muskegon, Michigan. Son Francis Louis Esslin and Rose Delima Bellefleur. He died 13th June 1918 at Belleau Wood, France. Buried Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau.

1 to 30 April – Det. Duty with Batt. Intelligence Section.

June 1918

79th (F) Company, 6th Regiment. AEF.

1 to 14 June – Duty participated in action against enemy in Chateau-Thierry Sector inc. att. & capt. of town of Bouresches, France.

14 June – Killed in action by enemy shell-fire in line of duty and not result of own misconduct. Remains buried 16 Jun. 18 at Lucy le Bocage, Aisne, France, in Montgivrault Farm. Taken from Graves Registration Card would have been awarded Char. Ex. had he been discharged.
