Hi All,

Could anyone tell me if the English comedian, Robb Wilton (Robert Wilton Smith 1881 to 1957) served with the 7th Battalion, the South Wales Borderers?

Many thanks in advance,

Russ

Only two x Robert W Smith on Ancestry Medal Index Cards served with the SWBs number 46455 and 36081 (also Labour Corps 131798) unfortunately doesnt give a name on the initial W. Ralph.

Thanks Ralph,

I have seen that and as you say it does not help much.

I am curious because my mother has just showed me a cutting from a newspaper from 1953. It is my g g Uncle Charlie's 50th wedding anniversary and it says 'being an acquaintance of Robb Wilton, the comedian, in the First World War, Charlie Evans often wonders if he is the person Robb Wilton refers to in his broadcasts'.

Charles Clark Evans MM was in the 7th SWB in Salonica and I wondered if it was there he knew him from.

On wikipedia it has Robb Wilton as Robert Wilton Smith so of course I wondered if the PALS could help me further.

Russ
