AlanCurragh Posted 19 July , 2008 Share Posted 19 July , 2008 Just been reading in the Battleground Europe "Thiepval" guide, that Major Gaffikin's last words before he exitted Thiepval Woods on 1st July 1916 were - "Tell them I died a teetotaller - put it on the stone if you find me" He is buried at Bray Vale - anyone know if his stone really says this, as he wished? Peter Bennett Posted 19 July , 2008 Share Posted 19 July , 2008 His epitaph is from Leigh Hunt's poem, Abou Ben Adhem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abou_Ben_Adhem
