NigelS Posted 19 July , 2008 Share Posted 19 July , 2008 Came across this chaps service details on the same Medal Roll as my grandfather; "6/P of W. Camp" & "1(a)"must indicate that he served for while in a unit running a PoW camp on the Western Front. (The regimental no. 304323 is 5th London Regiment (LRB)). Is there any further information on these units: structure & manpower, how many there were - one per camp ? -, at what level they fitted into the command structure, etc? Does the 6 just indicate a unit No. or that he would have been with Camp No.6 ? With BEF men that were taken prisoner, is this detailed on the Medal Rolls with dates of captivity or is it just shown as continuous service with their battalion?
