I am preparing a few notes for a school party that is visiting Ypres in a few weeks time.

One of the local casualties was a member of 4th Seaforths who was kia on 8th September 1917.

Do any of the Pals know whether the 4th Seaforths were involved in an action or trench raid on this day?

Many thanks

The British Official History has the 1/4th Seaforths in action on the 20th September. This would support your latter suggestion. More details are likely to be forthcoming.

Battle of the Menen Road, 20th to 25th September 1917.

1/4th Seaforths 154 Brigade, 51st Highland Division.

attacked Pheasant Trench, came under fire from Hubner House in the 58th Division area but the Brigade took Flora Cottage. Later in the day the 1/4th and 8th Seaforths and 7th A&S formed a v shaped defensive flank which took the German counter-attack in enfilade. They eventually dug in around point 82 on the Poelcappelle Road.

The area is about 3/4 mile from Langemarck along the Poelcappelle Road on the right. (South side)
