Hi

Wonder if anyone can help me find any citation or mention of Lt Sherrick a Medical Officer from the US Army attached to 5th Batt West Ridings been awarded the MC around 8/9/18

Were awards to foreign troops gazetted just the same?

Thank you for any help.

The officer you're after is Lt John Wesley Sherrick and there was mention of him in this topic:

http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...showtopic=81891

My understanding is that awards to foreign nationals were not normally gazzeted but it is possible that the recommendations might have survived as I believe that they have for WWII awards.

He is named in both The New York Times and Boston Daily Globe on 28 May 1918 amongst 11 US officers who were awarded the Military Cross. On the 5 April 1918 he was reported as 'severly wounded' and on his WWII Draft Registration form he gives as identification marks 'bullet wounds - middle back'.

This is his MIC:

This is his photograph from his passport application:

If you need any further personal information from Federal Census etc please PM me.
