Anthony Bagshaw Posted 23 July , 2008 Share Posted 23 July , 2008 John, Not a problem. I love Geoff's search engine, it is fabulous. I know what you mean by the CWGC but i suppose at the end of the day the information isn;t actually for research, it's commemorating those who died as it has to. Do you mind me asking how you intend to 'pull' the research together, is it going into a book or website? I'm always interested in other people's projects, especially war memorials as i appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into it! Hope the research goes well, will you keep us all updated? Hi Not sure what to do next, Swinton church are raising money to renovate the church so i was thinking of giving the data to the vicar so he can use it to raise money for the renovation work. I think it would be a fitting use of the information. John
bruce Posted 24 July , 2008 Share Posted 24 July , 2008 My local Parish newsletter is always desperate for items, so I sent in twelve over twelve months. Our new Vicar asked me for some stories of men in the War memorial, which he included in his sermon on Remembrance Sunday (I more or less wrote his whole sermon!) and so, when we then moved to the Lych Gate where the names are read ot, at least some of the men commemorated began to mean a bit more to those present. Just an idea of a use for all your hard work. Bruce

Neil Clark Posted 28 July , 2008 Share Posted 28 July , 2008 Shame the cwgc site search engine isn't a little more sophisticated, not a criticism just an observation. Don't worry swintonlad, it's really quite Okay to tell em the truth. I agree their effort is rather pathetic when compared to Geoff's hugely superior effort. Still it ensures they continue to generate extra revenue from people who want a location report and who still don't know of Geoff's creation... And to think, Geoff is a mere interfering civilian! I have finally mamaged to identify him.
