Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any information on what the 7th Battalion Notts & Derby (the Sherwood Foresters Robin Hood's) were involved in between March 29th and August 26th 1918. Also what the 16th Battalion Royal Warwicks were engaged in from August 26th to 2nd September 1918. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The movements of 7th Sherwoods from the history

28th March: Hermin

April 1st: Road Camp, St Jans ter Biezen. At this time a draft of 700 joined from Lancs and Yorks Regts

April 3rd: Inspection by General Plumer

April 7th: Billets at Winezeele

April 10th: Into reserve at Brandhoek, in preparation to meet German offensive launched the previous day

April 12th: To Kemmel

April 13th: Moved forward to Neuve Eglise. Battle of the Lys. Neuve Eglise fell about 3pm and Battalion moved back to railway and underwent heavy shelling

April 14th: Relieved Irish Battalion in front of Wulverghem. Beat off enemy attack. Ordered to withdraw to Lindenhoek

April 15th: Advanced to fill gap in line near Wulverghem.

April 15th/16th: Moved to Mount Kemmel itself

April 16th: Wet, under heavy bombardment with no cover. At nightfall orders received to man trenches near Lindenhoek crossroads.

April 17th: The Battalion front extended round the base of Kemmel Hill and enemy attack repulsed by rifle and Lewis-gun fire.

April 18th: Battalion requested to stay in line as support to French who took over the Kemmel sector. Severe gas shelling.

April 19th: Still in line and underwent heavy shelling. Finally relieved by French and marched back, via Locre and Westoutre, to Dirty Bucket Camp which was reached on the 20th.

April 21st: Westoutre

April 26th: Ordered up to St Jans ter Biezen but enemy attack repulsed, so not needed.

May 2nd: Watou

May 5th: St Omer

May 6th: Order for disbandment

May 7th: Men marched off to other units

Scanty, but I hope useful

Martin
