Can I have assistance with the term Stretcher Bearers. Were these men from the regiment or corps other than RAMC who were trained or detailed as Stretcher Bearers. I have a gallantry medal to one person from a Scottish Regiment who was a Stretcher Bearer. Were they armed etc? Any help is welcome

The Long Carry, the war diary of stretcher bearer Frank Dunham 1916-1918"

edited by RH Haigh and PW Turner

with a foreward by Corelli Barnett

My website has the letters of a stretcher bearer with 1st Bn Sherwood Foresters www.ypressalient.co.uk - Norman Butcher.

Battalions had their own designated SB sections and they were armed only with an armband.

Nemisis,

If you want to PM me his name etc, I will check my list of Pipers for you. Some units used there Pipers as SB's and Ammo carriers, so he may appear there. It's worth a try,

Regards,

Stewart
