BottsGreys Posted 12 July , 2008 Share Posted 12 July , 2008 Hello all: I recently acquired 3 very nice images of Lt. Francis Herbert Keys, East Surrey Regiment and his wife, Dorothy Gamble Steed Keys, dating from their wedding in 1913. See below. No record of Keys in CWGC. Would anyone happen to have any details of his possible service during WWI? Thanks in advance. Hope you enjoy the images. Phil996 Posted 14 July , 2008 Share Posted 14 July , 2008 Hi Chris The Army List for December 1917 shows him as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant with the 1st or 2nd Battalion. The date is shown as 7 July 19 but this must be a mistype for 16 as the officers above and below are all 1916 - see pic. I'm not sure why the 1st and 2nd Bn officers are listed together but it might give you a start as to where he served. Best wishes Phil

ralphjd Posted 15 July , 2008 Share Posted 15 July , 2008 Chris, His birth was registered in St Saviour Southwark in 1890. His wife was born 26-3-1891 and lived to the ripe old age of 96 dying in January 1988 Poole Dorset. Not much help re Francis really. Ralph. BottsGreys Posted 19 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 19 July , 2008 rjaydee: Thanks for the information. It's interesting (and a little moving) to look at Dorothy's face and know that she had such a long life ahead of her--another 75 years!
