johnnie Posted 9 July , 2008 Share Posted 9 July , 2008 I am trying to find out more about Private Edmund Young, 13656, North'd Fusiliers and was wondering if anybody might be able to help me. I know that he arrived in France on the 9th September 1915, but have no other details. Any information about he Battalion or his service would be great. Procat Posted 9 July , 2008 Share Posted 9 July , 2008 Hi Jonathan, Nothing on Ancestry pension or service records. Here is his MIC in case you do not have it: Doug
johnnie Posted 9 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 9 July , 2008 Thanks for that. I did have the MIC but its handy to have it up for others to see. I have just carried out a search on Geoffs CWGC serach engine for numbers near Edmund, and have come up with a man who was 12th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers (13650 Pte Whittigham). As his number is near, might it suggest that Edmund was also 12th Bn? Jonathan
SteveE Posted 9 July , 2008 Share Posted 9 July , 2008 Had a look at Whittingham's MIC and his date of entry is also 9/9/15 so it's quite possible he was 12th Bn. but without more evidence I wouldn't say it was definite. Looking at the LLT mothersite it would appear that 12th, 13th & 14th Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers went to France in the period 2nd - 13th September 1915 as part of 21st Division. I know nothing about Northumberland Fusiliers numbering so I guess it's possible he could have been in any of these three. Steve
SteveE Posted 9 July , 2008 Share Posted 9 July , 2008 Just extending the search of CWGC a little using Geoff's search engine brings up a few more service numbers around 13656... 13641 - 12th/13th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 4/10/17 (after 12th & 13th Bns merged). 13646 - 12th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 25/9/15. 13647 - 25th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 15/10/17 (possibly transferred to 25th sometime after entering theatre). 13650 - 12th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 25/9/15. 13663 - 12th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 17/9/16. 13664 - 12th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 27/9/15. 13666 - 12th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 25/9/15. 13669 - 12th Bn. - entered theatre 9/9/15. Died 23/2/17. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions from the above Steve
johnnie Posted 9 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 9 July , 2008 Well that certainly seems to fit. It was the first time I had thought about using the service number in his search engine to try and work out a battalion but it seems to work! If anybody has any further information or has come across him in their research I would love to hear. Jonathan
Michael Johnson Posted 9 July , 2008 Share Posted 9 July , 2008 Check the dates for the odd ones out - if they are 1917-18 they could be transfers, or new unit after recovering from wounds.

Good point, I've amended my post above to show the casualty date to hopefully give a clearer picture. Steve
