basiloxford Posted 6 July , 2008 Share Posted 6 July , 2008 Hello, Does anyone happen to know where the service records are kept for the Coldstream Guards ?, i seem to remember reading somewhere that the Guards service records were kept separate from the rest of the soldiers service records. I'm looking for information on, George Sidney Finch, Sergeant, 2nd Coldstream Guards, service no 8333. Harry Grace, Private, 3rd Coldstream Guards, service no 9333. any help would be very much appreciated. Barry.
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 6 July , 2008 Share Posted 6 July , 2008 Here's one of the threads on the subject. In theory one set had the same chance to be at Kew with the same rate of survival as the rest; a duplicate set are at: Guards Museum Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, Westminster, Westminster, London, SW1E 6HQ. Copies cost £25. http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...ington+barracks

basiloxford Posted 6 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 6 July , 2008 Hello Coldstreamer, I'm researching all the men that appear on a local war memorial, which includes members of my family, and i have come across these two men who both served in the Coldstream Guards, and this is why i am looking for their service records. I have the details off the GWGC site, but was looking for more information about their service, and hoping to find their date of birth, next of kin, place of residence, etc. Any help would be appreciated, Barry. Esskay Posted 7 July , 2008 Share Posted 7 July , 2008 Barry SDGW gives the following clues- Finch Birthplace: Oxford Enlisted: Birmingham Residence: Oxford Looks like his birth registration was: George Sidney Finch 1892 Oct-Nov-Dec Oxford Berkshire, Oxfordshire In the 1901 census he was living at 37 Wellington Street Oxford - father George was a Handy Man (Builders) and George Junior had 4 brothers + 1 step brother and 4 step sisters living at home For Grace Birthplace: Bicester, Oxfordshire Enlisted: London Residence: Oxford Thought I found him - but details on CWGC don't tie up with what I had so will dig deeper if I have time Hope this helps a little - if you need any certificate refs or more family info - just ask Cheers Sue
