Hello All

This is a request for help. Anyone who can tell me anything about this mans service

http://links.pictures.aol.com/pic/6860RqUf...S4upAmEUI_l.jpg

I can see that he enlisted in 1917 in the York and Lancaster Reg. A medal card exists for him in the same reg.

He lost his leg below the knee in WW1

I am trying to connect him to an officer who served in the Home Guard in Newcastle upon Tyne. Lieut/Capt C Browne.

www.ccoynblhomeguard.co.uk

Where did he serve in WW1

Can anyone help.

Looking at the record on Ancestry, it looks like he lost his right leg due to gun shot wound (and subsequently amputated - as you've mentioned. It also appears that he suffered an injury to his left hand, yet on the next age it states GSW to to right hand!!

Discharged 28 March 1919 aged 19.

Reported KIA 11 April 1918 later changed to wounded in action (poss around the date of his leg/hand wounds??)

7th Training Btn - posted 24/11/17

Transferred to West Riding Regt (4th Reserves?)4/12/17

3rd Btn - posted 6/2/18

6th Btn - posted 31/3/18

Transferred to Y&L Regt (2nd Btn) 2/4/18

So it would appear that he was in the 2nd Y&L at the time of wounding. Here's a link to the Y&L page on the Long Long Trail....... clicky here

The discharge request does state 2nd Btn Yorks & Lancs.

Peter,

The image you supplied is a direct image (albeit smaller) from Ancestry.co.uk. There are approx 12 pages to his records. PM me your address and I'll get copies and send 'em on. I'll get his MIC too if you need it.

Just downloaded the record - 10 pages long. I can let you have individual images of each page and I've merged them into a pdf document. Also found his MIC.
