Found: Medals -- The Great War for Civilisation 1914-1919. R4-068914, Pte. Thomas. W. Taylor, A.S.C.; Also: Medal -- 1914-1918, R4068914, Pte. Thomas W. Taylor. Can anybody recognise the name and number of this soldier. Not mentioned on the CWGC, so he must have survived. Also medal belonging to Pte. John Loftus, Royal Berkshire Regiment, No. 5331194, India-Waziristan, 1921-1924. John Loftus also survived the war. The Taylor medals were found in the Loftus home and they would like to try and locate relatives of this soldier. P. J. Clarke.

You must remember that CWGC only gives information on casualties. Ancestry.com and the national archives will give you more info on these men

If you make an appeal in the press be prepared to inundated with call from charlatans attempting to get their hands on medals to which they have no claim. The paper should advise you how to go about it but as a general rule, always keep something back so that a genuine claimant can identify themselves. that might be difficult though given that there is a lot of information available now.

The medals are worth decent money, especially the India General Service Medal. Be on your guard!

All the best,

Nigel
