Hi

I'm researching Lance Corporal Sydney Bramley of 9th Bt. East Surrey Reg.

He was KIA on 9 August 1917.

I'd appreciate any help regarding where the unit was at that time.

Hi Steve,

Your man was part of the 72nd Brigade of the 24th Division. I think that he would of been at either the battle of PILCKEM or LANGEMARCK. They were the first and second phases of the 3rd battle of Ypres. Not sure on this, perhaps someone else will be able to be more accurate than myself. Do you know where your man is buried or where his memorial is?

Regards

Mike

Steve,

I have done some substantial research into the 9/East Surreys as my great-uncle (on the extreme right of my avatar) was with them 1915-1919. I have most of the war diary copied and would be happy to look-up for you. Unfortunately I will be away from home for the next couple of days so don't have access at the moment.

Sounds like your man died of wounds after the Battle of Pilckem. SDGW might confirm cause of death - KIA or DOW.

Cheers - Ian
