Hospital Blues and stripey ties

I was recently loaned this photo of a group of lads recovering. When I got down to scanning it I noticed that they are wearing stripey ties with their H/Blues not the expected red tie.

Any thoughts or comments?

Collar pins and striped shirts also appear to be the order of the day, so maybe there is a special occasion.../local dress variation?

I had assumed possibly wrongly that H/Blues would be subject to standing orders the same as all uniform combinations, and that deviation would not be possible outside of those dictated by medical requirements.

My guess is that this tie, which looks to be a squared ended knitted type, was for a specific and perhaps high profile (miltary?)hospital. I agree that wearing it would be contravening dress regulations. It might be worth posting this on the 'Women in the Great War' part of the site. There is an expert there on nursing and she might be able to throw light on the location.
