Guest Gwandwad Posted 17 February , 2004 Share Posted 17 February , 2004 My sister's father in law, John Nappin, was was in the South Lancs Fusiliers. He was a POW in Belgium and was an escapee who was recaptured as he was about to cross the last bridge (into Holland?). This, and his life interest in Edith Cavell and her memorials, suggest that he was one of those that she helped. While in POW camp his portrait was painted by a fellow POW named Horsfield and this painting hangs on my sister's wall. If anyone can add anything that will help identify the artist, or add anything to the story, they can look forward to a pub lunch in the heart of the Sussex Downs
Kate Wills Posted 17 February , 2004 Share Posted 17 February , 2004 You might like to take a look at David Cohen's site at DCFA David is a very helpful and approachable person and if you make contact he may be able to help. Kate
Guest Gwandwad Posted 18 February , 2004 Share Posted 18 February , 2004 Thank you for that interesting link Kate. Horsfield is not among the artists listed on the site, but I shall obtain a copy of the picture and send it to David Cohen with my query.
