The Guardroom Posted 17 June , 2008 Posted 17 June , 2008 L/Corpl 1625 MAURICE ARCHIBALD COOPER DEANE is listed on teh CWGC site as being in teh 4th Bn Royal Berks. On checking there were 2 such Bn's. Can any one help advise what his likely Bn was please so I can track the action he was KIA at on the 24th May 1916. Many thanks.
MelPack Posted 17 June , 2008 Posted 17 June , 2008 TG The 2/4th did not arrive in France until 26th May 1916 so you can discount that Battalion. The 1/4th was behind the lines on fatigues on 24th May 1916 so it looks as if your man died of wounds sustained earlier. Regards Mel
MelPack Posted 17 June , 2008 Posted 17 June , 2008 TG Your man is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery which is 80km south of Boulogne and was the location of No 5 and No 2 Stationary Hospitals. The best guess is that he was wounded during a major trench raid on 15th May before he finally succumbed. Regards Mel
