L/Corpl 1625 MAURICE ARCHIBALD COOPER DEANE is listed on teh CWGC site as being in teh 4th Bn Royal Berks.

On checking there were 2 such Bn's.

Can any one help advise what his likely Bn was please so I can track the action he was KIA at on the 24th May 1916.

Many thanks.

The 2/4th did not arrive in France until 26th May 1916 so you can discount that Battalion.

The 1/4th was behind the lines on fatigues on 24th May 1916 so it looks as if your man died of wounds sustained earlier.

Your man is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery which is 80km south of Boulogne and was the location of No 5 and No 2 Stationary Hospitals.

The best guess is that he was wounded during a major trench raid on 15th May before he finally succumbed.
