14-15 Star mystery

Another mystery in my gt.grandfathers medal collection envelope.

I was half expecting to find my gt.grandfather's 14-15 star. Instead I found a 14-15 Star without the ribbon but with the followng words on the reverse side:

J. 37532

E. A. RAWLINS

ORD., R.N.

I guess this is a naval chap. I searched on medal index card at NA and drew a blank. Any ideas?

Many thanks for any help.

Rgds,

The online Medal Index Cards are army documents and only a tiny minority of naval personnel received arny awards. The Navy had seperate medal rolls compilied in alphabetical order, these are not online. However their service registers are online, here's his details:

Name Rawlins, Ernest Allen

Official Number: J37532

Place of Birth: Staines, Middlesex

Date of Birth: 29 September 1892

Many thanks. Very interesting. My gt. grandfather lived in Ashford, Middlesex, next to Staines when he joined up in 1914. I guess this chap Rawlins was someone he knew and he ended up with his medal somehow.

Kind rgds,

Kevin Ley.
