Ramleh (now Ramla) War Cemetery Israel

A contact has told me that he would be willing to try and photograph individual graves in Ramleh War Cemetery if full details, including grave reference number, can be provided. Please either post here or PM me in the first instance. I am afraid that I can't guarantee that my contact will be able to meet all requests as he does have other commitments, but at least there is an opportunity here.

I'd be very grateful for a photo of the grave of

QUINE, BRIAN HOWELL, B H Lieutenant Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) 27/06/1918 24 N. 32.

He his remembered on the Lincoln School Memorial.

I'm not sure if N32 is a grave reference or a memorial panel, but I expect that will be obvious.

Thanks very much

I would likewise be very grateful for a shot of the following gravestone at Ramla/Ramleh:

THOMAS, H. Sapper WR/289716 Royal Engineers, died 1 December 1918. Grave ref. S.2

If possible, I'd also like to be able to read the personal inscription (if any), but your contact may be working within time or other limitations, so not to worry.

Many thanks,

Hello from France,

please can you make 12 photos to make a panoramic view ?

Many many thanks.

I have passed on your requests.

Do I understand correctly that you want a general panorama of Ramleh made up of 12 separate photographs. If so, I'll ask my contact but am not sure whether he would be able to do that. I'll let you know what he says.

It will be of enormous help to Reminiscene2's contact,

if requests give FULL details of the grave/headstone which they require photographing

see the cemetery details here http://www.cwgc.org/search/cemetery_detail...2001&mode=1

and "NOTE : The 1914-1918 section has many grave references identical to the 1939-1945 and Post War sections. Please check you are in the correct part of the cemetery by a simple check of the dates on the headstones. The cemetery layout plan is available online at www.cwgc.org"

Unless FULL details are given, then the duplication of grave refs can make this job very, very, time consuming

regards

Dear Reminiscene2,

If your contact isn't too busy and has the time, I'd be very grateful if it would be possible please to get photos of these three graves, of casualties from Dover, in Kent.

1. KNOTT, Sapper, S W, 541401, 519th London Field Coy., Royal Engineers. Killed in action 19 September 1918. Age 27. Grave Ref. R. 61.

2. THORP, Driver, Alexander Thomas, DM2/166209, 956th Mechanical Transport Company, the Royal Army Service Corps, died on 5th January 1919

and from WWII,

3. STEVENS, Private, GEORGE WILLIAM ARTHUR, 6288341, 1st Bn., The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment). died 22 July 1940. Age 19. Grave Ref. H. 23.

If it is possible to get a couple of just general views of the area, just as context, that would be super too!

Thank you very much,

Maggie

Could you please PM me your email addresses so that I can forward your photos? File sizes are pretty hefty so, if it's OK with you, I'll zip them. If you don't have a zip programme on your computer, I can make the zip files executable so that you will be able to open them.

Thanks,

David

I have passed the links you gave me to my contact and am now waiting to hear from him whether he can manage to do the panoramic photographs

Sorry, folks, but I am afraid that my contact is having email problems. For this reason, I cannot accept any new requests for photos until the email problem is resolved and the backlog of requests cleared. Hopefully, both issues can be resolved soon.

Graham and Moriarty

I have PM'd you to ask for your email addresses so that I can zip your photos to you. If you have already received the PMs my apologies for appearing to hassle you.

This is just a big public thank-you to David and his contact for the photo of Spr. Hugh Thomas' grave at Ramla/Ramleh.

I have sent you a PM re. the translation of the Welsh inscription and his background - quite interesting in that it turns out he lived in the same group of streets as myself (when I was under 4 yrs old) and it's quite likely my Nain (North Welsh for Gran) knew him & his family!

Both your efforts much appreciated.

Hi David,

The photos are marvellous.

A public thankyou for you and your contact. You both should be congratulated on making these photos available to those who would never be able to achieve them otherwise.

Cheers

Thanks, Geoff, I really do appreciate your comments. I'm more than happy to be of help and, to be honest, I think it's my contact in Israel who really deserves all the credit. Quite apart from the fact that he's taken the time and trouble to go and photograph the memorials, he's had more than his fair share of email problems. Thankfully, his perseverance has paid off. Slowly but surely we are managing to get the photographs through. Not too many outstanding now!
