Gordon_Noble Posted 15 June , 2008 Share Posted 15 June , 2008 Hi - this is only my second post, although I have been an avid "reader" for a few years now. I have researched a lot on my Great Uncle Hendry Noble of the Gordon Highlanders (6th/7th Btn) S/24067, who was killed on 25/10/1918 and buried at Valenciennes Cemetery. As it is the 90th anniversary this year I intend to visit the area as it seems appropriate to do it now after promising myself a visit for a long time. I had a reply from the CWGC, apparently the original burial site for my relative is: Sht. 51a.K.20.a.7.5. I was curious to find if anyone could help to pinpoint this on an old or new map, before I contact the Imperial War Museum as they suggest. I would have liked to visit there too but it's a bit of a trek from Scotland! Any info gratefully received.
JimSmithson Posted 15 June , 2008 Share Posted 15 June , 2008 Hi Just to say you may have to be patient with this request for a Pal with access to the rarer maps. 51a.K area is not on any of the maps either on the CD-Rom from Naval & Military press or Linesman. It is on the eastern fringes of the mapped area and if my working out is correct the K square in 51a is north of the Paillencourt and Hordain areas, not as far as I can see mapped at all.
