delta Posted 29 January , 2004 Share Posted 29 January , 2004 Reading "The war the infantry knew" I was surprised to learn that certain drafts (reinforcements) joined a battlion on the Somme in Summer 1916, having been attested only 5 weeks before and having received very little training (fired 5 live rounds and required further training on how to load / unload a rifle). Reference is also made to training at Etaples. Does anyone know of a published work which describes the recruit training process in the summer of 1916 so I can put these comments into context
Muerrisch Posted 29 January , 2004 Share Posted 29 January , 2004 The official period was never less than 14 weeks : references abound. Try SEARCH for training, or infantry training : lots there.
