Hi , I'm looking for information on my Great Uncle, James Dobbie , from the Isle of Bute He originally enlisted with the Bute Mountain Battery , & although served in most of the war & survived , I do not know much of where he was , or anything about the regiment. I've kinda come to a dead end, & wondered if anyone could help ? He was quite a cool guy , after the war he was the Master of Trades in the building of the Chrysler Building in New York ! !

Rab

The Bute Battery together with the Argyll and Ross & Cromarty batteries formed the 4th Highland Mountain Brigade serving in Gallipli and Salonika.

Gnr James Dobbie was a member of the 51st DAC ( Divisional Ammunition Column ).

With luck, fairly shortly Forum member CSSMo will be along to give you the full run down on them. He has done a tremendous amount of research on the 4th HMB and has some very good pictures of the Bute battery training at Bedford prior to going to Galliopli.
