docchippy Posted 18 November , 2006 Share Posted 18 November , 2006 Pals Some time ago (late 1990s) a friend of my father passed away. He was a picture framer and amongst the uncollected frames in his workshop was a MID certificate which had been left to be framed. On real annotated "daddy's decoration" his had never been collected. It was awarded to 2nd Lieutenant G Adams 2/6th TF North Stafforshire Regiment and dated 7th November 1917. Can any pals shed light on the actions or identity of 2nd Lieut Adams in 1917 or ideas how this could be reunited with its family. Thanks Doc

MID London Gazette here: - http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...;selHonourType= I also found this out from a friend the following: - Commissioned 7.12.1915 2nd Lieut 2/6th Bn, Lieut Jan 1917, Acting Captain Dec 1917, wounded and taken PoW 21.3.1918. Not much, but I hope it's a start. Hugh

The enemy attacked in large numbers and broke through ton the right flank of the BNs and reached the HOGS BACK, completely cutting off the BN. Casualties: Killed Officers, LT COL T B H THORNE, OR 3 WOUNDED OFFICERS CAPT F E FOLEY OR 8. Missing MAJOR OJF KEATINGE, CPTS CW SMITH, N STC PALMER, G ADAMS, D F TORRENS, LIEUTS O L PAGET, G P RATHBOURNE H R SMITH, 2/LIEUTS J PAXTON, P J RYAN, A L SALTER, J C V JENNINGS, A C IRVINE, P H BATCHELOR, S P HUDSON, E M COPE, J S COLBOURNE, S G HOWE, A T GREENE, C W FELLOWES, W N PRICE, R HEATON, OR 586 2/LIEUT A E STEARN and S BURTON SMITH, collected a party of men with transport lines and reported to MAJOR H M C CURTIS DSO 2/6 BN SOUTH STAFFS REGT who formed a composite BN. This BN held the line at MORY EAST CAPT D C B COTES assumed command of the BN *Note 21/03/18 was very chaotic for the batallion, they were encircled and many men became POWs. It would probably have been very difficult to predict what was happening, so he is reported as missing and not captured. There are some POW accounts for the 2/6th battalion on the TNA website. I hope this is useful, even if jolly late! Colette
