Guest smitz99 Posted 22 January , 2005 Share Posted 22 January , 2005 HI FOLKS I HAVE GOT A EMBROIDERED POST CARD FROM FRANCE IN WW1,ENTITLED " A KISS FROM FRANCE" THAT MY MOTHERS DAD SENT. 1. NO FRANKING ON IT( HOW WAS MAIL HANDLED AT THE FRONT?) 2. ANY IDEA OF THE YEAR, IT TALKS ABOUT CHRISTMAS WHICH NARROWS IT DOWN TO 1914,1915,1916 OR 1917, PERHAPS YOU CAN TELL FROM THE STYLE OF THE CARD OR THE FACT IT IS NOT STAMPED OR FRANKED? HOPE YOU CAN HELP CHEERS MICK
redbarchetta Posted 22 January , 2005 Share Posted 22 January , 2005 Mick, These embroidered cards were produced in massive numbers throughout the war, so there is no way of tying the date down from the design I'm afraid. These cards were usually posted in envelopes (to protect the embroidered design, obviously), so the postmark will have been on the envelope !! Sorry. robbie Posted 22 January , 2005 Share Posted 22 January , 2005 Hi there, I have some similar cards and I believe they were made in Belgium and France throughout 1914-5 to 1919. Are you able to pinpoint a year based on information you have re your grandad? Robbie
