Superbladesman Posted 19 August , 2014 Share Posted 19 August , 2014 [Thanks for that, good work. Do you know why there are 3 dates shown on a PoW camp list header page and what do they mean? Example Cheers Apologies if I do not appear to know how to post images
Bardess Posted 20 August , 2014 Author Share Posted 20 August , 2014 I believe: Abgesandt vom Lager = Sent by Camp Eingegangen beim = Received by War Ministry Abgesandt vom = Forwarded by War Ministry
Superbladesman Posted 21 August , 2014 Share Posted 21 August , 2014 Many thanks for that it is more than useful. I had tried to do a Bing translation which did not work, I can now see it was my misunderstanding of German written words. I can now make sense of the 3 records I have for my father in law as it is the first date that is important. I assume the date stamped at the top of the record is when the ICRC received them. Bardess Posted 21 August , 2014 Author Share Posted 21 August , 2014 Glad to help, Alan. You're very welcome Yes, I believe the date stamp at the top would be to indicate when it was received by ICRC
joroti Posted 16 September , 2014 Share Posted 16 September , 2014 Hi, I extensively researched my G/Grandfather a few years ago as he had fought and died in the war. Never thought to see if he had a POW record as he was a PoW for only 8 days, having been wounded in a trench assault and captured and died in a German field hospital. Today I stumbled across the ICRC website and in a few minutes had about 6 sheets with various details of his short time as a POW and a few details I did not know such as his exact date of birth. Am not too good with German so thought I would ask the very same questions on this website about the column headings and was delighted to find someone had already done so. Grateful for your explanations / translations Bardess, just what I needed. Thanks, John
