Recommended Posts

I am currently researching the names from World War 1 on the War Memorial in Aldeburgh in Suffolk and I have attached a list of the names to see if anyone can help me. I do have quite a lot of the military information already from a fellow researcher, but I am now looking for the personal family stories and possibly photographs to add to this research with the aim of publishing a book in 2014.Thanks to anyone that can help me. Kind regards. Simon Last Aldeburgh War Memorial Names from WW1 Great War Forum 19 6 13.pdf

Hi, Simon, how does your List compare to that already available on Rolls of Honour website?

That seems to have 4 Cables against your two. Perhaps a joint effort would ensure all found?

Hi Simon

My Great Grandfather is Angus Harold Ashford - his name is on the war memorial in Aldeburgh. I do have a photo of him but know very little about him, excepting family tree connections. I think he was a joiner or carpenter. The family surmise that he may have worked for a building company run by George Oliver Knowles (a great great grandfather) and then married his daughter Florence.

We also think that he was an accomplished violinist and painter!

I am happy to help if I can

Kind regards

Melinda

Hi Melinda

Many thanks for your message which is very much appreciated - is it possible to get a copy of the photo to add to my research and of course I would acknowledge you accordingly. My email address is charnwoodresearch@virginmedia.com

So far I have found Angus to be the son of Alfred Ashford and Eliza Smyth and he had three siblings Alfred, Rosina and Arthur. He married Florence Georgina Knowles in 1903 and had three children George, Eustace and Thora.

I look forward to hearing rom you.

Kind regards
