colin.green14 Posted 7 December , 2012 Share Posted 7 December , 2012 Hi All, In transcribing a War Diary in relation to an attack by 1/4th Oxford & Bucks in Italy during September 1918. I have the operation orders and part of a Trench Map, the problem is that I cannot reconcile the map references (although written on a type writer, copy difficult to decipher) with the grid on the map. As it is only a partial map is something missing, or am I being stupid!! Regards Colin
Seany Posted 7 December , 2012 Share Posted 7 December , 2012 seems ok if we think maybe some typo what look like 3 rather than 5 so clearing dug outs at 733 would occur behind the British or allied front line. if you substitute 5 for 3 it seems ok
CROONAERT Posted 11 December , 2012 Share Posted 11 December , 2012 Colin, here's another (differently dated) 1918 extract of the same map which I've cropped to give a wider view. Your 'H73', 'H74', 'H75' and 'H76' squares are all now visible too. (I've also got a French (and an Austrian) trenchmap of the same place at a nearer date but, as it's (they're) referenced differently, would only probably confuse matters!) Might help?
