Dear all,

having been researching my grandfather and his siege battery - the 293rd - I have now put it all together into a website that I offer for your comment.

Please bear in mind that I envisage this as a developing project in terms of accuracy of info as well as the total amount of info.

the website may be accessed at -

http://293siegebattery.webplus.net/

many thanks to everyone on this forum who has helped with my researches thus far !!

regards

Sean

Nice one Sean - well done! Is your nominal roll based on medal roll entries and chaps mentioned in war diary entries? I'd be interested to hear what other sources you've used to compile it.

(Just wish I could find similar photos for 5 Siege Battery! :D )

All the best

Steve

Thank you both -

Walter, please if you do come across anyone please let me know.

Steve, mainly from esteemed members with huge knowledge of RGA, medal rolls, CWWGC, cited in service records of others - but mainly from the generosity of members sharing info.

Yes, the knowledge and generosity of many GWF members never ceases to amaze - I've similarly gained much valuable info since joining this wonderful forum!

Just to second Walter, I'll also keep an eye out for other 293 S Bty men for you.

Best of luck with further searches!

Kind regards

Steve

Well done Seany,

I live in hope for the day that someone prepares a general RGA website where people can submit photos and details on their battery of interest to build up a resource on the topic.

Thank you for your kind comments but I'm now thinking this is the result of about two years work, its half finished as even a basic website, and this is very much its early days.

however, it can't be found on a google search - something is blocking access - a robot txt or something which I certainly never created. Any ideas how to make it visible to a search engine?

Hello Sean,

I'm slowly working my way through the Leicestershire 1918 Absent Voters Lists and will gladly let you have any 293rd men that I come across. I've just completed the first voting division and have 383 RGA men listed with one man serving with the 293rd Siege Battery.

123329 Gnr. Frederick John Fleming 293rd Siege Battery residence shown as 1, Council Road, Hinckley, Leics.

Regards for now.

Llew.
