verdun Posted 8 October , 2009 Share Posted 8 October , 2009 Seeking info on the MSM awarded to: SE/9049 Pte. (A/Sjt.) Frederick Finch, AVC which was gazeted on 17th June 1918. This soldier was attached to the 51st Mobile Veterinary Section. Would anyone have access to the following book: MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL. The Immediate Awards 1916-1928 by Ian McInnes ISBN NO: 9781843420187 I believe this might have reference to MSMs awarded to the AVC and to A/Sjt Finch in particular. Many thanks if you can help, Peter (This topic also posted in the SOLDIERS section)
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 9 October , 2009 Share Posted 9 October , 2009 I believe this might have reference to MSMs awarded to the AVC and to A/Sjt Finch in particular. On page 469 it mentions that 317 were awarded to the RAVC, I've not found a reference to A/Sjt Finch other than the page number of the Gazette his award appears on. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 October , 2009 Share Posted 9 October , 2009 Finch's MSM LG Promulgation... LINK MSM Header Link LG 17th June 1918 Innes' Book is just a list by year of Immediate MSMs culled from the LG as lists there is no further detail other than it appears in the LG {indeed it is often harder to find an MSM in it unless you know when to look for it
taylov Posted 11 October , 2009 Share Posted 11 October , 2009 There is a MIC for this man's MSM at the National Archives (which will cost you £2) http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...;resultcount=18 but is it listed as Finch J, SE/9049 Army Veterinary Corps, attached Mobile Veterinary Section. Possibly a transcribing error. Can't find it on Ancestry. Hope this helps, Tony.

taylov Posted 11 October , 2009 Share Posted 11 October , 2009 Hi, Here are his Medal Cards Regards Mark I've seen this Clerk's flowing writing before on other MSM MICs - you can see how someone at NA has transcribed the "F" as a "J". Ironically this is exactly how I was taught to write a Capital letter "F" at school in the 1950s. Tony
