Hello,,

does anyone have any idea what the strength would have been of the Royal garrison artillery in 1918.I have read the section in this forum on RGA batteries and see that there were 99 in operation in 1918.However, I do not know what the manpower strength would have been for a RGA brigade-was it c750-800 men as with the RFA?

I would appreciate any information

Regards

Ron

Ron,

Royal Garrison Artillery on 11/11/1918 was 7,417 officers, 156,607 other ranks.

Total establishment RGA/RFA/RHA was 15,135 officers, 410,289 other ranks on 11/11/1918

Actual strength was 18,732 officers, 420,809 other ranks.

Total gun batteries was 1,805

That gives an average of 243 per battery.

Total enlistment during the war was 560,467 comprising 435,344 regulars, 102,387 territorials and 22,736 re-enlistments.
