I have used Microsoft Autoroute. 1 is Gondecourt (photos to follow later) 2 is Givenchy (photos to follow later) 3 is Le Bassee 4 is Illies 5 is Viollaines 6 is Lorgies 7 is Annoeulin quite a small area where all the photos where taken Geoff Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

(Meine Wenigkeit) am Scherenfernrohr an der Lorettohoehe. Minuten spaeter wurde das Sch.F. kaputt geschosssen." "Myself at the telescope at Loretto Height. Minutes later the telescope was shot to pieces" The actual text at bottom: "Sandsaecke fuer Deckung" = sand bags for coverage H.W. obviously hints to Hei Wei? On page 19 photo 1 is a placename called Vielaines. This is in the Champagne-Ardenne (Aude). No 'Beau Puits' in this region, but there is a Puits-et-Nuisement. And it fits with the other place names.The only odd one now is Mousson, which is not near Le Bassee, Page 6 photo 2, and healdev says the Germans never took Mousson. Any one got any ideas? One is Pont-a-Mousson north of Nancy and the other is Mousson north of Troyes. Any chance the Germans took one but not the other? And Pont-à-Mousson is not Mousson. Geoff <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Geoff, in 1916 the 13th Infantry Division came from Artois to Lorraine and took part on the fighting around Verdun. On 16th February 1917 the divisional artillery of 13th Inf.Div. was devided and Feldartillerie-Regiment No 22 left the Division, FAR 58 stayed at the 13th Inf.Div. until war was over. Feldart.Regt. 22 came to the artillery-reserve of the German Army after its extraction from 13th Inf.Div. In February 1918 FAR 22 got part of the 200. German Inf.Div. Malte PS: The area behind a German army's sector (which was not directly combat zone) was called Etappe. The High Command of an Army (1., 2., 3. ....) delegated the tasks to be solved backwards of the Combat zone (Administration, support, education and training of recruits ... and so on) to an "Etappen-Inspection".
