It is claimed that he was 14 but there is quite a bit of controversy about this. There has been a lot of discussion about this young man before and a quick search will bring this info up. Nick Thornicroft Posted 3 September , 2005 Share Posted 3 September , 2005 On the CWGC website, Pte. Reginald Giles, 1st Glosters (k.i.a. August 20th, 1916) is listed as being aged 14. The SDGW lists him as being born at Cirencester, Glos., but in the 1901 Census, there is a Cirencester-born Reginald Giles aged 5.
