WW1 Railway Modelling 4 – Inspiration from other model layouts

Existing (and past) model layouts can be inspirational and informative for new modellers. This article lists some of the excellent work done by modellers already interested in the train systems of WW1.

Hopefully people will note in the comments at the end of the article any additional reference sources that have been overlooked (please stick to the topic – other scale model layouts of WW1 railways).

Holbeach Estates

Stephen Sullivan

An exhibition layout based on the East Anglian agricultural business railways, such as Nocton and Holbeach, that utilised much of the ex WDLR narrow gauge stock after the War. A great collection of rolling stock in a well crafted setting that includes the building used to transfer potato loads from narrow gauge to standard gauge.(http://www.davesrailpics.bravehost.com/nocton/nocton.htm)

Cenac's Sidings James Hodgkiss

This marvellous layout is a clearing in a wooded area and depicts a gun park of the French Artillery Regiment of foot (68th RAP).
Set in the summer of 1918 following the German spring
offensive, the gun park acts as a hub for the supply of
material to regiments in this sector, especially ammunition for
the guns. Practically all of the stock is scratch built.

20 Casualty Clearing Station

A narrow gauge layout with broad gauge sidings alongside. Lots of very interesting detail and several videos showing how the scene was put together.
