Remembered Today: 765188 Driver John CUNNINGHAM Royal Field Artillery who died 21/03/1921 SOUTH SHIELDS (HARTON) CEMETERY United Kingdom

John Cunningham was born in Ushaw Moor, County Durham in 1877. He married Mary Jane Couch in 1898 in South Shields. The 1911 census shows John and Mary living in Westoe, South Shields, with a son and daughter. His occupation is shown as a miner.

John Cunningham's military career seems uneventful. His medial information card  shows he served with 5A Reserve Brigade which was based in Athlone, Ireland. It also records that John Cunningham was not awarded any medals, which would indicate he did not deploy on active service. His service number, 765188,  was part of the block issued to 317 Brigade RFA, 2nd line 3rd Northumbrian Brigade RFA. The 317th were part of the 63rd (Royal Naval) Divisional Artillery, however with no medals being awarded he does not appear to have served with them on the Western Front.
