Everyone has a story
Actually people have many stories because each life experience creates a story. However, if people don't document their stories they will be lost forever. I know this as a fact, because I have my grandfather's WW One journal and each handwritten entry is a story of what he experienced. For most of my life I didn't know this book existed, so all I knew about my grandfather was based either on my own experiences with him, or a few stories my father told. It has been through his journal I've gotten to know a great deal more about who he was. I also learned what happens when stories are not written down. After my father died my brother, sister, and I went through some of the documents that he kept. It dawned on me that the documents represented a portion of his life; like his High xcept for a few stories he shared with me, all his stories are lost. His name will appear on the family tree, but no one will know the man behind the name.
Even if someone documents their stories, if they don't share them with others, then they don't really exist. That is why I've been posting excerpts from the journal. They have been well received by members and they have brought my grandfather back to life. There are other stories attached to the journal, and one of the stories involves a letter. A letter that my grandfather wrote around 1945, and the letter contains a story about a promise that was made but never kept.
I'm in the process of writing a book about these stories, but I'll save the details for a later time.
