Excellent information on the 175th (Staffordshire) Brigade Royal Field Artillery. Not only detailed information and maps on their deployments and actions, but good background information on the RFA, their Guns (I suspect a trip to Firepower), and a personal account of the service of Benjamin Fellows L/33330 Cpl A/175.

Each of the new army divisions had their own integral support, including the artillery of 4 brigades RFA. Whilst the concept of the Pals Battalions is well documented, we should not forget the same principle applied to other units.Pals also joined non infantry units and brigades RFA were formed on the same localized basis.
The 175th Brigade formed part of the Th Divisional Artillery, and therefore supported the Tyneside Scottish and Irish Brigades. Included in the Divisional Artillery were Northumbrian gunners from Sunderland, 160 Wearside Brigade RFA. The 175th would have had some strong links to the North East.
The Divisional Artillery which deployed to France consisted of:
152 Nottingham Brigade RFA formed in Nottingham (originally numbered CLII)
160 Wearside Brigade RFA Sunderland (originally numbered CLX)
175 Staffordshire Brigade RFA Staffordshire (originally numbered CLXXV )
176(H) Leicestershire Brigade RFA Leicester (originally numbered CLXXVI)

As Dave points out, it is easy to forget some of these units of the new army. For regular and territorial units, the heritage of the Gunners who served is carried on, it is only right we remember that Forty-Nine Thousand & Seventy-Six Of All Ranks Of The Royal Regiment of Artillery lost in WW1 included many new army RFA Gunners.
Many thanks to Dave preserving the memory.
